December 7th
We woke up at 2 o'clock in the morning and waited at the back of our cottage
for fruit bats. Occasionally large flying foxes, presumably Island Flying
Foxes flew but they didn't come closer. They became more active around
4 o'clock in the morning and we heard the call they were mating but couldn't
spot them. Around 5 o'clock bat calls fell off.
After lunch we were going to go to the bat cave we went the day before
yeasterday but the tide was not low enough. We had to wait until past four
o'clock in the afternoon. The tide on the day was not low and we got soaked.
Fortunately dogs did not follow us probaly because they didn't like to
get wet. We saw three Celebes Rousettus on the day.
After dinner when we were on the trail to the village we saw a Long-toungued
Nectar Bat acroglossus minimus came to a banana flower nearby. First we thought it was a moth as the
bat was very very small and fly lightly. Near the banana there was a large
mango tree full of fruits which large flying foxes sometimes came. We heard
a bat flying by with audible calls and lit it with a flash light and found
it was rousettus- sized bat.
A large grilled striped mackerel was served as dinner with funny decoration
of vegetables.
