We went to the city center of Kandy by bus which cost 20 rupees per person
which was much cheaper than by tok-tok.The city center was developed around Kandy lake with a temple which houses Budda's teeth, other sightseeing spots and local shops. As we didn't bring sandals we bought two pairs of flip-flops which cost 200 rupees each.
The most common bird in the city center was crow.

From the city center we had to take another bus to get back to the hotel but the bus destinations indicated on the front of the bus were written in Sinharese which we couldn't read. The hotel manager wrote "Dwandara", the hotel address in Sinharese on some paper and we showed it to several people and in the end we could get on the correct bus. We got off the bus in front of the hotel sign and climbed up the 300m slope.
We were at the hotel terrace from 6:00 in the evening and saw flying foxes
passing by. There must have been another colony nearer than the Botanical
Garden. Some flying foxes seemed to land not far from us but we couldn't
see them from the terrace. Some microbats also flew around with 40kHz and
55kHz calls.At about 7 o'clock in the evening, we heard something landed in a mango tree in front of the terrace. It was an Indian Giant Flying Squirrel Petaurista philippensis with its back to us eating a mango. It's long tail was easy to spot. While Japanese flying squirrels mainly eat leaves and shoots, this species mainly eats fruit. The next morning we saw a half-eaten mango under the tree. There were also fruit bat's pellets in the hotel garden. They came sometime during the night.
Dinner was fried rice with dried beef and pork bihun. The amount overwelmed
us.
